About Us
MELIORATE (MEdievaL manuscrIpt Ontology foR legAl conTEnt) is integrating and exploring medieval manuscript data with a focus on legal documents. The project uses existing resources from two major collections: Progetto Irnerio and Mosaico, both of which are managed by CIRSFID at the University of Bologna.
The Mosaico and Progetto Irnerio Projects
Progetto Irnerio: Specializes in legal manuscripts, particularly those from the medieval period, offering a digitized archive of texts crucial to understanding medieval jurisprudence. The project contributes legal historical documents that are invaluable for researchers in law and history.
Mosaico: A project focused on the preservation and digitization of a wide variety of medieval manuscripts. It provides a rich collection of historical, literary, and legal manuscripts that form the cultural backbone of medieval scholarship.
The central aim of MELIORATE is to integrate the data from these two prominent projects Mosaico and Progetto Irnerio into a unified research platform. By employing the Medieval Manuscript Data Integration Ontology (MMDIO), MELIORATE brings together these distinct datasets, allowing for a cohesive and detailed exploration of medieval manuscripts in their legal, historical, and cultural contexts.
This integrated platform provides researchers with powerful tools, such as semantic browsing, faceted search, and data visualization, to uncover new insights and deepen our understanding of medieval manuscripts, particularly those related to legal traditions.
